fun weekend

So I went out with the boys the other night (The Govna, Josh Boogie, and Ad Stock) and we had a great time. Winded up going to Otto's Shrunken Head late on friday and say Steve (the owner). He's an old friend of mine from the Tasty Fish Studios days. Funny how we were having a "band" outing and we see him.

We got into these random discussions about band etiquite and studio happenings. I think this band thing is going to be pretty interesting. Stay tuned for more developments...

TAB......W...T...F...?...

I never understood this beverage. I remember the commercials when I was a kid (c'mon a young Elle in those ads was a sexual awakening for many). I remember my FOB relatives drinking that crap by the caseloads. But that stuff is so damn aweful. I mean have you ever tasted one. Next time you want to get sick as hell in case you swallowed a condom of coke and need to get it out fast, just drink a can of this radioactive crap. I seriously think when they made this in the lab they must have said "Hmm, you think we can turn up that gross flavor a little more, it's too subtle for people in Tulsa"

This product is another example of why we must outlaw test marketing in middle America. This is what people are loving to go on the market. I mean I thought the Ford Taurus was the worst but Tab Takes the cake.

And it just wont go away. It's become the soft drink Lazarus, no matter how many people vomit from it.

Web 2.0 personality makeovers

In our current digital society IM (whichever client you use) has become such a daily experience for most Americans. The aspect of it that I find very interesting is how so much can be lost in translation through IM. You would figure a way of communicating through text would be very straight forward but in actuality people's personalities get hidden by what they perceive to be their true personalities.

J Boogie and I had a pretty good conversation about this, over IM obviously, yesterday. We as people have essentially used all the Web 2.0 tools to create these virtual avatars of ourselves. I certainly want to project an image of myself that is a positive image of myself online but it's pretty true to who I am. But recently I have met some people who are totally different then their online personas, and I am not talking about airbrushing a photo to make your boobs look bigger. I am talking about fundamental personality traits that seem so different in the real world vs. the online world.

In a way it can be a good thing, in allowing people to explore parts of their personality that they dont feel comfortable exploring in real life. But when it becomes an override of their true selves that can be scary. It's almost like a form of Online Schitzophrenia.

I think my next exploration in this will be to make a few fake myspace pages and blogs and see what the response is. Stay tuned for more....

Morrissey in the hizzy!

I got an email early this morning from the Morrissey fan site sent me info that the Moz is playing June 30th at MSG. I saw a show there years ago at the Paramount when Your Arsenal came out and it was great. So I cant wait for me and the boys to get tix and party down like its 1992.

I havent listened to much to the new album but if you have ever been to a Moz concert you know its almost like a religious experience. Especially when he play "Sister I'm a Poet" or "Such a Little Thing"

My favorite Morrissey concert experience was when Jon Buschemi and I went to go see him at Nassua Coleseum. We snuck into the front section with one ticket and were in the 10th row. We had to share one seat in a way but it was so packed nobody cared. The Jon starts throwing Lemonheads at the backdrop the whole time making it ripple and weirding out the stage hands. They were all running around trying to figure out what was going on.

A close second place was seeing Moz 5 nights in a row at 5 different small venues around the city in 1993.

I will definitly be sneaking in my camera for this one. Plus going to a show with teh Govna is so much fun.

Rope...see you there thursday

I think me and the boys are gonna start a new tradition, Rope on Thursdays. I know its some lame ass Pratt bar but its the best one in the hood... well at least for my speed. All the others are too bright, too yuppie, to lame. This one at least has both the Wu-Tang and The Smiths in the same jukebox... That sells it for me...

So if anyone else wants to join us, see you after 9pm

The warm weather

Today was simply fabulous. Not Absolutely Fabulous but Patsy would be proud. People were out and about, kids playing catch in front of JCDCs house, no static. Reminded me of why I still love the 718. Why from the first time I walked out of my house as a kid how happy it made me to live in Brooklyn. Sometimes you just loose sight of that... especially with all the crime and little kids rocking .38s without learning street honor first. Well lets hope it calms down this summer, if not SF is starting to look really attractive.

Songs to inspire... or whatever

So we have been talking about this band thing lately and I have been listening to more music and songs to get me amped to do it with the boys. So here is my list of latest favorites...

Jolene-The Geraldine Fibbers
Eventhough this is an old Dolly song their version is just so country punk that I love it. And Carla kills it on vocals... ladies take a lesson: you can still smoke cigs like a fiend and sound good.,,wel at least til you turn 26.

Where is My Mind-The Pixies
As cliche as it sounds this is such a pretty song and its so simple. It always makes me think that time is slowing down around me. Like a moment of clarity or something. And these guys were real rock and roll... they fought each day... and still put out great albums.

The Headmaster Ritual-The Smiths
OK, so anyone that knows me knows I am the biggest Smiths/Morrissey fag that grew up in East NY. But I love this song. Not the best Smiths song but I still love it. The lyrics are great and I love the rolling sound.

Chemical Wire-fIREHOSE
fIREHOSE, not that sissy Canadian band Firehouse, lights it up on here. This was one of my favorite songs in HS just because it is so punk-folk its crazy. I think Townes Van Sandt would be proud.

Tongue Tied-The Hong Kong
I had Boogie listen to this the other night and he agreed, they rocked. I am so bummed I never got to see them live. Its just so simple but fun to listen to. Thanks Ric Okasek for screwing up their record release.... douche

Phantom of the Opera(live)-Iron Maiden
Ever wonder what it was like to be in Maiden in the late 80s touring Europe with Bruce Dikenson...man I do. Dude this song says it all, it's all up in your grill and totally captures the live part about rocking out (especially the ending)...and dude, it's MAIDEN! I would so cover this.

Pink Flamingo-Love & Rockets
I remember when this album came out I had to see them live. You can just hear the atmosphere up on this album and this song especially. OH and yeah, that was one of the best shows I went to in the past 10 years.

Living like a turtle

So I havent updated my blog in a while. I had some crazy shit happen the last month that has gotten me to make a few major changes in my life. For one, I am going to be taking a sabatical from the studio. I just need to walk away from it for a while. I just need a breathe of fresh air. Its been a hardcore 3 years and now that products are in production I feel this is the best time. So I will be working on a new fulltime gig that will remain nameless.

Second I think I am starting a band with the boys. Not a boy band. Although a boy band made of 33 year olds sounds kinda funny. We could be like Un'sync or some shit. We could all wax our eyebrows and say we were on the Mikey Mouse club years ago. Anyway I think it would be fun playing with The Govna, Josh Boogie, and Ad-Stock. I mis playing bass so much and I think with the extra free time I need to return to it. I mean you cant just turn your head away from over 10 years of playing in bands. Plus, I'll be hones, I love being a rock star, always have. Since the first time I played out I was like, whoah, this is fun.

Third, I need to make more new friends. I need to get into a new circle of friends in general. Some old but mostly new local people. I have met a few in the past few weeks and realized that in my hood there are some decent cool people around. Plus I think it would be healthy for me and Farah to do that. Thank god Rope is so close.

Fourth, I want to move the fuck out of this building. Its just a little too sketchy for the price. I want something nicer where I dont have cops coming to my building every other night because of some stupid tenant that is being thrown out because she hasnt paid rent since August.

And lastly I am starting to take photos again soon. I need a free form artistic thing to do that I am good at and could potetnially make some loot off of. My new camera equipment arrives in about 10 days and I cant wait to get it. I think it'll be fun and Farah already promised to pose for me. Plus it will give me an excuse to walk around on the weekend and just shoot shit. I love shooting random Brooklyn stuff.

So again, sorry for the delay and I promise to have some lastnightsparty.com shit up soon as well as funny craigslist ads up.

Much love to Oli, Boogie, R & C, and JCDC for being there... see you soon...

Moonenites UNITE!!!

Maybe I am a little jaded and know too much about ATHF but this thing in Boston yesterday was ridiculous. I have been talking to Josh Boogie about this and he agrees. I mean c'mon, nobody knew what it was. I find that totally ridiculous. I mean someone on that anti terror force in Boston must stay up late smoking weed and watching Adult Swim. Or maybe they were too afraid to say anything about the fact that they were subversive stoner cartoon watching people.

The bigger picture here is that we have become so consumed with fear by our current administration that we have become morons. Guess that, the terrorist won if you think every single pop culture advertisement is a bomb threat. Some people I spoke to were asking for Ted Turner's head, I told then they themselves should get their heads examined.

Seriously people, why have we as a country become so dumb and unsophisticated that we don't get guerilla advertising for what it is. Dude, if someone was committing an act of terrorism, they would, and we wouldn't know about it til it blew up. Thats just facts. They wouldn't make it some flashing LED light sculpture. We cant think every damn thing is a terror threat, thats what got us into this mess in Iraq... and we all know how that has been going.

Love God's Way... and gay music

Ok,

This has to be the funniest thing I have seen in months...

List of gay bands according to Love God's Way

So the list first starts off with an Oscar Wilde quote and labels him a "reformed homosexual". Dude, read up a little on Oscar Wilde before you put one of the biggest gay patron saints quotes on your anti-gay page.

Next, the list is a bit questionable to be honest... Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, Metallica, Motorhead, DMX... I think these people just dont want anyone listening to any good music because then they'll realize how aweful Christian Rock and Rap is. Dude, I am sorry Creed sucks and that they are REALLY GAY... but dont overcompensate by not letting these kids listen to real music.
